Alexander founded the city of Alexandria in 332
BC. He
wanted to make the city the finest port in the
ancient world.
The city numbered chiefly Greeks, Jews, and
Egyptians. It
was the capital of Egypt. Most notable among the
boasts of
the city was the
Library--the greatest collection of
books in the
ancient world in 3rd century BC.
